E. O. Wilson, a world-renowned biologist, two-time Pulitzer Prize winner, native Mobilian, discoverer of fire ants and tireless advocate for the conservation of our local ecology, passed away in December 2021 at the age of 92. Wilson spent the last 70 years of his life living and working at Harvard University, but never truly left his hometown, writing “As the years passed, I came to realize that I always was, and will remain in the years left to me, a Mobilian. There my spirit chose to live. Rational ambition could never persuade it to leave.”
In appreciation for Dr. Wilson’s work to advocate for the Mobile-Tensaw Delta, America’s Amazon, which he called the “biologically richest region of North America,” we are pleased to announce a community partnership with Mobile Baykeeper, who have worked for the last 25 years to preserve our most precious resource. To celebrate this anniversary, and in tribute to Dr. Wilson, a portion of proceeds from our 2022 season scarf will go to support Baykeeper’s mission.
